REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, ISTANBUL -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Extraordinary Summit held in Istanbul, Turkey, on Wednesday (Dec 13) is expected to produce a final communiqué and several resolutions, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi stated.

"At least until Tuesday afternoon, there are two outcome documents to be produced, the first being in the form of a final communiqué while the second is in the form of resolutions," Marsudi noted here on Tuesday evening (Dec 12).

The minister remarked that until Tuesday night, negotiations were still underway according to a report of the Multilateral General Directorate of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry.

"The final communiqué contains political statements and calls, while the resolution will be a more detailed follow-up," she revealed.

The minister stated that on Monday (Dec 11) she had held talks with the Jordanian and Palestinian foreign ministers regarding preparations for the OIC Extraordinary Summit.

The two foreign ministers also furnished details on the outcome of the Arab League meeting.

"We agree to propose that the outcome of this summit should send a strong message on the position of OIC states and at the same time also demonstrate the unified stance of the OIC countries," she pointed out.

The strong message is that the OIC cannot accept the US' recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and condemns this move.

According to Marsudi, the OIC Extraordinary Summit also discussed follow-up actions to be taken.

"Why do we produce something that seems very powerful but hard to follow up?" she questioned.

"Hence, we agree to put forth the idea, and it has been proposed. We suggested that the actions included in the resolution are those that can be implemented," she stated.

The minister is still awaiting the outcome of the negotiations and is optimistic that nothing remains to be taken over by the foreign ministers who will meet on Wednesday (Dec 13) at 8:30 a.m. local time.

Marsudi revealed that two events to be held at the OIC Extraordinary Summit were the foreign ministerial meeting at 8:30-10:30 a.m. local time and the leader-level meetings at 11 a.m.-1 p.m. local time.

The minister noted on the sidelines of the Extraordinary Summit that President Joko Widodo will hold a bilateral meeting with leaders of other countries.

"We do not as yet know which heads of state will the president have a meeting with. We are still exploring the possibility in terms of time," she stated.
