Indonesia establishes energy cooperation with Iran

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia intensified energy cooperation with other countries, one of them was Iran. Indonesian government had several times sent envoy to Iran to conduct bilateral discussions.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Sudirman Said, said that the main idea of the cooperation was to invite investments from Iran. Both sides also agreed to cut investment barriers that had been existed.

Sudirman said, Indonesia was also exploring the supply of crude oil and derivatives of existing products.

"They also offer excellent gas for our fertilizer industry and also asphalt and electricity investment," he explained, Monday (12/10).

Related to western embargo on Iran, Sudirman continued, his ministry had coordinated with Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, Sudirman said, several countries began to look at Iran.

"But, while they (Foreign Ministry) takes care of the embargo, we provide our serious cooperation with them," he said.
