REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Jakarta provincial government has urged companies in the capital to implement flexible work and work-from-home (WFH) policies as extreme weather conditions continue to cause widespread flooding.
"Companies are asked to adjust working hours or implement WFH for types of work that can be carried out online or from other safe locations," said Syaripudin, Head of the Jakarta Provincial Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy (Nakertransgi) Agency, in Jakarta on Friday.
He explained that the policy serves as a precautionary measure to protect the safety and health of workers while ensuring business continuity.
This policy is outlined in Circular Letter No. e-0001/SE/2026 from the Jakarta Provincial Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy Agency concerning the Implementation of Flexible Work and WFH Systems Due to Extreme Weather, dated January 22, 2026.
"This circular is effective from the date of its issuance until further notice or until new policies are issued based on evolving weather conditions," Syaripudin added.
The letter stipulates that when implementing flexible work, companies must still fulfill workers' rights and obligations according to statutory regulations.
They must also maintain productivity and prioritize occupational safety, particularly for employees who are required to travel during severe weather.
However, these adjustments do not apply to workplaces providing 24-hour public services, such as healthcare, public transportation, logistics, and energy utilities.
"For these sectors, work arrangements can combine working from home and physical presence in the workplace proportionally according to operational needs and the level of risk in the field," said Syaripudin.
Syaripudin noted that recommendations should be implemented based on the objective conditions of each business sector and internal company regulations. Companies are requested to report their work system adjustments to the agency via https://bit.ly/HimbauanKerjaFleksibel.
