REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Provincial Government of Jakarta ensures that it will not hold a fireworks party on New Year's Eve 2026. This was done to show empathy for people in various areas currently affected by natural disasters.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung admitted that the fireworks party has become one of the traditions of the New Year celebration. The Jakarta provincial government had also planned to create a blossom party at the turn of the next year.
“Earlier in the meeting, I decided for the whole Jakarta area, held by both government and private, we ask for no fireworks,” he said at Jakarta City Hall on Monday (22/12/2025).
Pramono said it would issue a circular (SE) as the basis for the policy. That would apply to any new year celebrations implemented by government and private.
Even so, he claimed he would not be able to organize every individual of the community who wanted to light fireworks on New Year's Eve. Because, everyone also has the right to light fireworks at the turn of the year.
“But everything that requires permits, hospitality and shopping centers and so on, we ask for no fireworks,” Pramono said.
He explained that this policy taken by Jakarta Provincial Government is nothing but to show empathy for Indonesians, who are now affected by many disasters.
“Because now this disaster is not only in Sumatra, although the main ones remain in Sumatra, namely West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and Aceh. We will also hold a donation for Indonesia, because what is happening in Central Java, West Java, and some other areas of course also needs to get attention,” he said.
