Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ensures Prabowo to Meet Putin in Russia Next Week

The President and a limited entourage are scheduled to visit St. Petersburg.

REPUBLICA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto will pay a state visit to the Russian Federation next week. Prabowo will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and be a speaker at an international economic forum.

“Mr. President and his limited entourage are scheduled to visit St. Petersburg, Russia, on June 18-20,” Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Rolliansyah 'Roy' Soemirat said during a media briefing in Jakarta on Thursday (12/6/2025).

During the visit, which was carried out at the invitation of President Putin, Prabowo will also attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in the city of St. Petersburg. “Mr. President is scheduled to deliver a speech at the opening session and the plenary session of SPIEF with the President of Russia,” Roy said.

According to him, during their meeting, Prabowo and Putin will discuss the development of bilateral cooperation and exchange thoughts on regional and global issues of mutual concern. A number of memoranda of understanding (MoU), among others covering the areas of cooperation on transport development, shipbuilding, education, creative economy, and computer technology, will also be signed during Prabowo's visit to Russia.

Meanwhile, Roy confirmed that a meeting between Foreign Minister RI Sugiono and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will take place first in Moscow, before the presidents of the two countries meet. Earlier in April, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov stated that he was preparing for the visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to Russia in June 2025.

“The plan of this visit has been confirmed by the Indonesian side, and we will prepare well this important agenda,” Ambassador Tolchenov said during a media meeting in Jakarta on Monday (28/4).

The Russian ambassador also expects that President Prabowo will be able to use his presence at SPIEF 2025 to convey his “vision and views on the economic situation in the world, then in the region, and how Indonesia deals with global issues”.
