REPUBLICA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — President Prabowo Subianto is visiting five Middle Eastern countries, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Turkey, Egypt, Qatar and Jordan, to ask for their support for Indonesia's plan to evacuate 1,000 Palestinians in Gaza to Indonesia.
President Prabowo said Indonesia would implement the plan while getting a “green light” from all parties, including countries currently actively helping the Palestinians in Gaza.
Gaza-based journalist Ibrahim Radhah welcomed Prabowo's plan to take a thousand Gazan refugees to receive treatment in Indonesia. Radhah, who accompanied his wife to a treatment facility in one of Indonesia's hospitals, revealed that the number of wounded in Gaza is huge.
“It's great what your president proposed. He will take 1,000 children to Indonesia for care and then return to Gaza when the war has calmed down. This is very good because the number of injured is very large,” Radhah told Republika on Thursday (10/4/2025).
Nevertheless, Radhah noted that the proposal to accept the transfer of Palestinian refugees from Gaza to various Arab countries was not good. “Because this is something we reject. We don't want refugees; we want to remain in Gaza because it is our land and property. Therefore, it seems that your president has responded to American economic pressure,” Radhah said.
He stressed that Indonesia is an Islamic state that supports the Palestinian struggle and loves Palestine and Gaza.
“We also know that your president supports our right to establish a Palestinian state, as he emphasized in his speech when he served as president of Indonesia,” he said.
“In the end, the Indonesian people continue to support the Palestinian struggle, and the Palestinians continue to love Indonesia and its people,” he added.
