Shin Tae-Yong Hopes That the Indonesian National Team Will Qualify for the World Cup

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Former Indonesian national coach Shin Tae-yong said he was moved by the respect he received from Indonesian football fans. Shin was dropped off at Soekarno Hatta City on Sunday (26/1/2025) night on his return to South Korea.

Shin returned to Korea accompanied by six assistants. Before going home, he got a batik gift from Menpora Dito Ariotedjo.

“I was so moved to be brought home like this. I am very grateful,” Shin Tae-yong said through his translator Jeje when interviewed by media crews as broadcast by Compass TV.

On this occasion, Shin said, he considered the national players to be his own children. He asked the national players not to be disappointed by the change of coach.

“The players need to be able to build a good chemistry with the new coach. I wish the Indonesian national team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup,” he said.

In his hometown, Shin claimed to have no particular agenda. Yet there will be a big religious day there. For the rest, he admitted that he just wanted to rest first.

Regarding the Shin Tae Yong academy and foundation in Jakarta, he hopes everything goes smoothly. Because, the goal is to establish the academy and the foundation to advance Indonesian football.

Not forgetting, he thanked the parties who supported him during his handling of the Indonesian national team. “Thank you very much to PSSI and Mr. Erick Thohir for supporting him during his time in the national team,” said Shin, who could not confirm when he would return to Indonesia.
