REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir assures BUMN will continue to play a role as a counterweight to Indonesia's economy. Erick judged this to be in line with President Prabowo Subianto's commitment to achieve economic equalisation.

“I will meet with the SOE recruits in the next few weeks to ensure according to the program requested by President Prabowo Subianto that not only statistics and figures, but also equalization must occur. It is useless to grow the economy, but it cannot be equalized,” Erick said in a media briefing on the development of Bio Farma at the Media Center of the Ministry of BUMN, Jakarta, Friday (1/11/2024).

Erick called on SOE recruits to continue the population-economy program that has been running for the past five years. With an open market, Erick said SOEs are still able to perform competitively while playing a big role in protecting people's economies.

“For example, state-owned banks can prove themselves in the open market, but 92 percent of small, medium, ultramicro business loans are still the most important thing for Himbara bank. Not to mention the figure of 21.2 million (the customers for the Mekaar program are now very affected, it is important that there is a milestone in the sense that production in the villages is still a sustainable one,” Erick said.

In addition, Erick said SOEs will also be at the forefront in completing a number of national strategic projects (PSN). Erick said a number of PSN can have a multiplying effect in boosting Indonesia's economic growth. “Whether it is the special health economic area in Sanur that hopefully later in March will be completed its hospital and some clinics or the Sumatra toll road construction project that must continue,” Erick said.

Erick is also preparing a number of breakthroughs and leaps in boosting SOE's performance and contribution to the future. Erick said that the success of SOEs in the last five years gave great hope from the government and the public to contribute more.

“And also most importantly it helps the state income from taxes, from dividends. Yesterday the (target) dividend (2025) was set at Rp 90 trillion by the Ministry of Finance. If we look at the book, this is two to three months away, God willing,” Erick said.
