79 Indonesians Have Been Repatriated from Lebanon: Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Repatriation of WNI to avoid worsening situation due to escalation of Israeli attacks.

REPUBLICA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemlu) stated that 79 people were repatriated from Lebanon in a number of repatriation waves. Repatriation of WNI (Indonesians) in order to avoid worsening of the security situation due to the escalation of Israeli attacks in the country.

“So far, 79 Indonesian citizens and one WNA spouse of our citizens, have successfully evacuated us from Lebanon,” said the Director of Protection of WNI and BHI Kemlu RI Judha Nugraha during a media briefing in Jakarta, Thursday (31/10/2024).

Thus, the number of WNI in Lebanon currently remains 85 people. Judha said the majority of those who decided to stay in Lebanon were WNI married to local citizens.

He also confirmed that no WNEs were affected by Israeli air strikes on Lebanon or on Iran, which are currently continuing intensively.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also noted that the number of WNIs still in Iran is 352, and those in Israel and Palestine are 235 - including volunteers of the humanitarian organization MER-C who are surviving in the Gaza Strip, he said.

Furthermore, Judha said that it continues to appeal to the surviving WNIs in Lebanon, Iran, Israel, Palestine, and Yemen to increase vigilance, reduce movements of less important ones, and avoid vulnerable locations.

WNI in these areas are also asked to continue to maintain communication and follow contingency directives prepared by the RI Representative in their respective countries. Regarding the security status in the region, PWNI Director Kemlu stated that all areas of Lebanon, Israel and Palestine, as well as four provinces in Syria have been declared in a state of Alert 1 — the highest security status — by each RI Representative.

Meanwhile, Tehran's KBRI has designated Iranian territory as a security alert status 2, he said. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also urged WNI to postpone travel to Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Israel and Palestine, and Yemen, and to be aware of potential flight delays due to airspace closures if its flights stop in the Middle East region.
