REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Khabib Nurmagomedov came to Indonesia for the first time. The former UFC fighter arrived in Jakarta to attend the Kahforward event at Indonesia Arena, Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium complex (SUGBK), on Saturday (28/9/2024).

In a question-and-answer session, the Russian Muslim asserted that he was not a role model. He reminded that there is already a role model for all mankind, namely the Prophet Muhammad.

To the audience, Khabib said he may be able to provide motivation or advice for those active in mixed martial arts (MMA). Prior to his retirement in 2021, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov's son held an undefeated record throughout his MMA career. He was declared a legend by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

After all, Khabib continued, if the audience wants to be inspired and gain real knowledge, then they need someone who understands the religious sciences well.

“It depends on what you want. As for example, as a Muslim myself, we (Muslims) have role models. We all have the Prophet Muhammad. He is a role model,” Khabib Nurmagomedov said at Indonesia Arena, GBK, on Saturday (28/9/2024).

“I don't like people calling me a role model. I'm not a role model,” he added.

Khabib insists that he does not want to be a role model for the younger generation in any aspect. Because he claims to be just an ordinary human being who can make mistakes.

“They (the younger generation) can't take advice from myself. I can't be a role model for them because I'm an ordinary human being. Like everyone, I can make mistakes,” explained the 36-year-old former athlete.

Khabib does not deny his experience as a professional fighter in MMA and an undefeated champion in the UFC record. Therefore, it can motivate young people who are interested in the world of MMA to be disciplined, such as by knowing fighting techniques, recuperating, and dieting so that the ideal weight can be achieved.

No less essential, a fighter before entering the arena must master his own emotions. Of course, Khabib could give all that kind of advice about the importance of calm.

“However, in life, I have a role model. My advice depends on what you want. Who do you want to be? For me, the role model for Muslims is the Prophet Muhammad,” he said.
