36 Countries Celebrate Calligraphy Exhibition at Kaltim National MTQ

The calligraphy exhibition showcases the holy verses of the Quran in various artistic styles.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SAMARINDA -- A total of 36 countries from different parts of the world showcased the beauty of Koran calligraphy in the Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran series (MTQ) 30th National in Samarinda, East Kalimantan. This International Calligraphy Exhibition takes place at the Samarinda Convention Hall from 8-15 September 2024.

Director of Islamic Religious Illumination of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) and Chairman of the 30th National MTQ Implementing Committee, Ahmad Zayadi said that this international calligraphy exhibition presents stunning works featuring the holy verses of the Quran in various artistic styles.

“The calligraphic artists from each participating country display the uniqueness of writing with distinctive ornaments depicting their native culture, creating a blend of visual beauty and spirituality,” Zayadi said in a press release received by Republika.co.id on Saturday (14/9/2024).

The Regional Secretary of East Kalimantan Province, Sri Wahyuni explained that the calligraphy exhibition not only strengthens and strengthens the Islamic ukhuwah, but also relates to the month of Maulid of the Prophet Muhammad.

“Every country has a different art and style of writing the letters of Muhammad, that is the beauty of world calligraphy,” he said.

One of the visitors who felt the freshness of this exhibition was Aisyah (20 years old), a student from Samarinda. He was impressed by the various activities presented in this biennial event.

Aisyah expressed her admiration for MTQ which was considered more than just a Quran memorization competition. “The MTQ this time is very interesting. In addition to the memorization race, many other activities such as the calligraphy and culture exhibition of Samarinda. We can learn a lot of new things while enjoying the atmosphere,” says Aisyah.

“Hopefully with this MTQ, we can deepen and practice the teachings of the Quran in our daily lives,” he said.

Earlier, the 30th National MTQ was opened by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at GOR Kadrie Oening, Samarinda City, on Sunday (8/9/2024). The event was attended by 1,998 participants from 35 provinces who competed in eight branches of the race.
