REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA --The Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) of Belitung Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province (Babel), noted that the oldest Hajj candidate from the area is 81 years old in the name of Zalia, from Tanjung Pandan.

“The oldest Hajj candidate from Belitung Regency is in the name of 81-year-old Zalia, from Tanjung Pandan,” said the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Masdar Nawawi in Tanjung Pandan on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the youngest Hajj candidate from Belitung Regency in the name of Rahmati is 29 years old, from Nasik Strait.

“The candidates for Hajj who were appointed in 2024 are the worshippers who registered in 2012 and these are the rest of the worshippers who were not sent in 2023,” he said.

He said the number of potential pilgrims from Belitung in 2024 would be 62, consisting of 26 men and 36 women.

The largest number of Hajj candidates, he added, came from Tanjung Pandan 53 people, Sijuk two people, Badau three people, Mlamong one person, and Nasik Strait three people.

“They have undergone medical tests, although the potential pilgrims of this year's hajj are still very elderly. Those who perform the Hajj must istithaah (be able) not only from the cost, but also from the physical,” he said.

He explained that 62 prospective pilgrims from Belitung will be sent from Tanjung Pandan to Pangkalpinang Hajj Hostel using Sriwijaya Air 737-600 airline on May 17, 2024.

“The worshippers there will be received by the worshippers reception officer at the Pangkalpinang Hajj Dormitory. The worshipers will stay overnight and return to Palembang on the next day at precisely noon,” he said.

After arriving at Palembang Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin Airport (SMB) II, he said, the would-be pilgrims would wait for the scheduled departure to Jeddah using Saudia Airlines.

“Usually the departure is on Saturday (18/5) evening, just like the departure of Hajj worshippers last year,” he said.

He made sure that the potential pilgrims from the area were ready to go to the Holy Land because they had attended the manasik hajj activities eight times and underwent medical examinations.

“Even upon arrival in Pangkalpinang the worshippers will undergo the last medical examination carried out by the Port Health Office (KKP) of Pangkalpinang, before flying to Palembang,” he said.
