REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- No one suspected that Sayyidina Umar bin Khattab, who was so hostile to the Prophet, would eventually convert to Islam.

Moreover, it is hard to believe that Umar, who is known for fighting hard, converted to Islam because of the impulse of conscience touched by the reading of the Quran heard.

The coming of God's guidance was not unexpected at all. Umar ibn Khattah converted to Islam because he heard the Quran and also his conscience was touched by the persecution of the Muslims of Mecca.

Something similar may have been experienced by Ida Suliyati, when she recited the pledge of conversion at Al-Akbar National Mosque Surabaya (MAS) on the first Friday of Ramadan 1445 AH (15/3/2024).

The resident of Jombang, East Java, claimed to be interested in Islam because in her place of work as a housekeeper, her employer (Habibi) always broadcast live from Mecca about the rituals (Islam) in front of the Kaaba, every day after dawn.

“It was (the TV show) that touched me. Almost every morning, I watched a live broadcast from the Masjid al-Haram to which many people did worship, so my heart churned,” he said.

Eventually, Ida was interested in revealing her interest in Islam to her employer's wife. Ida has also solidified her heart into being a convert.

“I was amazed when I saw the atmosphere in Makkah and Medina, I also often listened to selawat, so I decided to convert to Islam,” Ida said.

Ida gave two sentences of martyrdom under the guidance of the Grand Imam of Al-Akbar Mosque KH Abdul Hamid Abdullah, SH, M.Si. At that time, KH Abdul Hamid, spontaneously prayed that Ida would soon be destined to bring Umrah to the Holy Land.

He was given an immediate umrah in order to be able to see the real Kaaba, not just on television. Kiai Abdul Hamid also reminded Ida that after converting to Islam she should keep five prayers, namely zuhur, asar, maghrib, isya' and dawn.

Not only that, Ida also tells of her admiration for her Muslim employer, but also strongly upholds tolerance. When on a certain day, Ida is welcome by the employer to worship at the place of worship.

In addition to Ida, up to the 18th of Ramadan (29/3/2024), 20 people were guided to recite two shahs at Al-Akbar Mosque, including WNAs from Australia, America/Canada, and South Korea.

The dozen people knew Islam in different ways, because the coming of the guide was indeed directly from God and the way was also unpredictable.
