President Jokowi Appoints Mohamad Tonny Harjono as Chief of Air Force

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has officially appointed Marshal Mohamad Tonny Harjono as the new Chief of Staff of the Air Force (KSAU) to replace Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo. Tonny who is a former aide and military secretary to the president (sesmilpres) will become the 24th KSAU.

The appointment was enshrined in Presidential Decree (Keppres) No.20/TNI/2024 dated March 25, 2024, which President Jokowi has signed. The decree also provides for the dismissal of Army Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo from his post.

“The President has signed the Decree Number 20/TNI/Year 2024 dated March 25, 2024 on the dismissal with respect of Marshal of the Army Fadjar Prasetyo from his post as KASAU, and the appointment of Marshal Madya TNI Mohamad Tonny Harjono as the new KSAU,” said the Coordinator of Special Staff of the President of RI, Ari Dwipayana Republika.co.id in Jakarta, Tuesday (2/4 /2024).

Ari said that the inauguration of Marsdya Mohamad Tonny Harjono as the new KSAU will be held at the Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta in the near future. “This decree comes into effect from the moment of the inauguration, which is planned to be held in the near future,” Ari said.

KSP Chief Expert Ali Mochtar Ngabalin ensured the inauguration would take place before Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo retired so that there would be no vacancy.

“Yes, according to the deadline of the KSAU period, when it is finished, there will definitely be no vacancy,” Ali Ngabalin said at the Bina Graha building, Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta.

Meanwhile, Marsdya Mohamad Tonny Harjono does have a sterling track record. In addition to being close to President Jokowi as he has twice served in the Palace, he is also an F-16 and Sukhoi fighter pilot.
