REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Organizing Agency for Halal Product Assurance (BPJPH) of the Ministry of Religious Affairs will implement the first implementation of halal certification obligations on October 17, 2024. This was realized by the Bali local government by inviting the Indonesian Institute of Food, Medicine, and Cosmetics of the Indonesian Ulama Assembly (LPPOM MUI) to facilitate free halal certification for UMK practitioners in tourist areas.

LPPOM MUI together with the Head of Department of Industry and Trade, Bangli Regency, Bali facilitated free halal certification for 200 micro and small enterprises (SMEs) in Bangli Regency, Bali. The halal certificate submission ceremony was held on Tuesday (5/3/2024) at Wantilan Selatan Building, Pengliparan Village, Bali.

The President Director of LPPOM MUI, Muti Arintawati expressed appreciation for the concern of the local government in Bali, especially the Department of Industry and Trade, Bangli Regency, towards the UMK actors. According to him, halal certification has two functions.

“First, halal certification is a form of business operators' compliance with applicable regulations. As is well known, the government has imposed halal mandatory for all products circulating in Indonesia. This becomes a must for business operators if their products want to be traded in Indonesia,” explained Muti Arintawati, Tuesday (5/3/2024).

Secondly, with halal certification, the production process of a business will be more systematic and easily traced. This is because certification requires the presence of a halal management team as the party responsible for ensuring the purity of products, from raw materials, production facilities, to products reaching the hands of consumers.

On the same occasion, Head of Bangli District Department of Industry and Commerce I Wayan Gunawan, welcomed the cooperation. He hopes that this cooperation can improve the economy of people in Bangli district.

“We are happy today because business people in Bangli district have made a leap in their business. Not only complying with regulations, halal certification is an attempt to add value to a product. This is ultimately expected to be able to improve the economy of people in Bangli district,” he said.

This program is a pre-event form of the Syawal Festival LPPOM MUI 1445 H. The program is a form of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of LPPOM MUI that has been regularly implemented since the last three years in the form of technical guidance and facilitation of halal certification for free or subsidies for UMK.

This year, the facilitation of free halal certification through the Syawal Festival program will be held again with the theme of “Accelerating the Economy of Local Communities through Halal Tourism” by targeting micro-businesses located in favorite tourist destinations to support economic growth through halal tourism.

This is a concrete effort of LPPOM MUI in helping the government to successfully implement the regulation and form of LPPOM MUI concern micro-businesses in terms of regulatory compliance and providing added value to their products.
