REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian President's Special Staff Coordinator, Ari Dwipayana said that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is always open to meet and communicate with various national leaders, including with PDIP General Chairman Megawati Soekarnoputri.

“The president is always open to meeting, engaging with the nation's leaders. Especially for the good and progress of the nation,” Ari said when confirmed to Republika.co.id in Jakarta, Tuesday (13/2/2024).

Ari's statement was in response to the news that Jokowi requested the help of Yogyakarta Special Regional Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X as an intermediary in order to bridge Megawati's meeting.

According to Ari, the initiative of the meeting can arise from anywhere. But the most important thing is that contacts with the leaders of the nation will also benefit the interests of the nation and the state.

“The initiative of the meeting can arise from anywhere but the most important thing is that the contacts between the nation's figures will certainly be beneficial to the interests of the nation and the state,” he said.

Earlier it was rumored that Governor of Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X asked Jokowi to bridge a meeting with PDIP General Chairman Megawati Soekarnoputri. The Sultan himself did not deny the news.

“Yes, but I'm waiting for the president. I will bridge. It's up to the president then (the timing). I'm waiting. If you need me, I am willing,” Sultan said at Kepatihan Complex, Monday (12/2/2024).

Nevertheless, he said he was passive about this meeting. So if Jokowi at any time asks him to meet with Megawati, then he is ready to facilitate.

“Yes, it means not taking the initiative. That took the initiative of Mr. President. If you want to meet Mbak Mega I facilitate. If I can meet myself, I am grateful, if I am passive,” he explains.

But so far, he said, there has been no direction from Jokowi. “If the president doesn't say 'please be delivered', if he doesn't (ask) then he won't. I am passive rather than nagyak-ngoyak (chasing),” Sultan said.
