REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PURWAKARTA -- The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Purwakarta Regency, West Java, said 1,797 people out of 520 heads of families were displaced due to the landslide that occurred at the foot of Mount Anaga, Sukamulya Village, Tegalwaru District, Purwakarta. Purwakarta BPBD Chief Executive Heryadi Erlan, said thousands of residents affected by the landslide were displaced at several points in the Purwakarta region.
Residents displaced in SDN 2 Sukamulya and mushola. There are also residents who have fled to the homes of their families and brothers, both in one village and outside the village.
The landslide disaster that occurred at the foot of Mount Anaga occurred due to heavy rain on Thursday (4/1/2024). The landslide occurred from atop Mount Anaga.
He mentioned that in addition to heavy rains, the cause of landslides also occurred due to geological conditions. That is, the area around the foot of Mount Anaga is indeed an area prone to soil movement.
“So when it rains heavily, the soil and rocks are water-eroded and have landslides,” he said.
According to the provisional records of BPBD Purwakarta, 1,797 people out of 520 families were evacuated to safer places. A total of 16 units of houses were damaged, eight electricity poles collapsed, one house of worship was damaged by the landslide disaster. In addition, it was also reported that a paddy field area of about 3 hectares was affected by landslides.
Acting Regent of Purwakarta Benni Irwan invited people living at the foot of Mount Anaga, Sukamulya Village, Tegalwaru District, Purwakarta to evacuate immediately in anticipation of the occurrence of a natural disaster after the landslide. Until now, it has continued to focus on evacuations at the site of the landslide, both evacuation of people and goods.
After complete evacuation, further cleaning and normalization of public facilities affected by the landslide will be carried out. While the handling is ongoing, whether relocation or not, it will be done by mutual agreement.
“But for the sake of safety and security, I urge the people who are around the landslide point to get down, evacuate to a safer place,” he said.
