Floods inundate 785 houses in Cilacap

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CILACAP -- Floods hit 785 houses in Central Java's Cilacap district on Monday, owing to the overflowing waters of the Cibereum River.

"The affected houses include 33 in Tegalsari village, 185 in the Sidamulya village, 397 in the Gunungreja village and 145 in Sidareja village, with the water level in these villages touching 1 meter outdoors and 40 centimeters indoors," Sidareja sub-district Head Rumbarwoto said on Monday.

The floods had forced 43 people to evacuate to the Sidareja sub-district's military command, he said.

The floods had begun impacting the villages early on Monday, a spokesman for the local disaster mitigation board (BPBD) Agus Sudaryanto revealed.
