REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi conveyed the surge of community movements that occurred during the Christmas and New Year holidays (Nataru)) 2023/2024 is still under control until now. This was stated by Budi after monitoring the Nataru Transport Central Post at the Ministry of Transportation Headquarters on Monday (25/12/2023).
On the first peak day predicted to occur on 22 and 23 December 2023, there was a surge in movement at some points, particularly in tourist attractions. “On yesterday's peak day, in some tourist attractions there was a surge. Like among them, Puncak, Dieng, and other places,” Budi said in a written statement on Monday (25/12/2023).
Budi added that the points that have been anticipated to experience high congestion are at Merak, Ketapang, Cipali, and Soekarno-Hatta Airport. Even so, Budi ensured the situation was surging but remained fluid and under control.
“There is one rather crucial and dense point that is in Cikupa leading to Tangerang. We have coordinated with the Police and motorway operators to carry out traffic engineering, whether contra flow or other means of action,” Budi explained.
Budi added that so far, the accident rate is down 39 percent compared to Nataru 2022/2023. “I would therefore like to thank the very cooperative community for following up on this safety challenge. I am also grateful to all the operators who keep this movement well,” Budi said.
