REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- One of the Prophet Muhammad's companions was once told about something very important by the Prophet. That is, the practice that can lead one to heaven, the doors of goodness, and the foundation of religious matters, the poles and the pinnacles.
In the historical hadith of Tirmidzi, it is explained that the Prophet Muhammad's friend, Mu'adz ibn Jabal inquired about the charity that would put him in heaven. Then the Messenger of Allah explained the important things to his friend.
Mu'adz ibn Jabal said, “I was with the Prophet Muhammad on a trip, one morning I was near him, and we were traveling.”
Mu'adz ibn Jabal said, “O Messenger of Allah, tell me about a charity that will put me in Paradise and keep me out of Hell.”
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied: “You have asked me about a great thing, but it is a light thing for those whom Allah has made easy for him. That is, you worship Allah and do not associate it with anything, you establish prayer, perform zakat, fast in Ramadan, go on Hajj to Baitullah.”
Then the Messenger of Allah said, “Will you show me the doors of goodness? Fasting is a shield and alms will extinguish wrongs as water extinguishes fire, and one's prayer at midnight.”
The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) read, “Their hulls were far from their beds, while they were praying to his Lord with fear and hope, and they provided a portion of the sustenance We gave them. No one knows what is hidden from them, which darkens their eyes in return for what they have done” (Al-Sajdah: 16-17).
Then the Messenger of Allah said, "Would you like me to show you the main points of religion, the pillars and peaks?" Mu'adz bin Jabal answered, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah."
The Prophet said, "The core of religious matters is Islam, its pillar is prayer, while its peak is jihad."
Then Rasulullah SAW said, "Would you like me to inform you with something that strengthens all of that?" Mu'adz bin Jabal answered, "Yes, O Prophet of Allah."
Then the Messenger of Allah held his tongue and said, "Control your mouth."
