REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The holy book of the Quran has such a complete content as a guide to life for Muslims. One of the main points is about the law in Islamic sharia. But what is the actual number of holy verses of the Quran related to
the law?
Allah has explained everything in the Qur'an, and We sent down the Book to you to explain everything (QS an-Nahl verse 89).
This book is a guide for those who believe,
وَنَزَّلۡنَا عَلَيۡكَ الۡـكِتٰبَ تِبۡيَانًا لِّـكُلِّ شَىۡءٍ
God will explain to you the ways of those before you (the prophets and the righteous) and accept your repentance. Allah is All-Knowing and wise (Al-Nisa: 26).
Reported from Saaid's website on Saturday (February 27), scholars disagree on the number of legal verses in the Quran.
First opinion, it is limited in a certain number, and the number of verses is also different. Some say 500 verses, others call it 200 verses. Then some state only 150 verses (See Kitab al-Mustashfa, and Kitab al-Mahsul).
Second opinion, this is the view of the majority of scholars. It is mentioned that the legal verses in the Quran are not limited to numbers. For that each verse of the Quran can infer certain rules. Imam al-Qurtubi in his tafsir, he barely missed a single verse of the Quran except for the rules in it.
