REPUBLIC.CO.ID, — In heaven and hell, what will be the food of the inhabitants? Will the food be the same?
Sheikh Mabruk Attia explained the difference between the food of the heavenly and the food of the experts of hell.
The sharia teacher at Egypt's Al-Azhar University has long been preoccupied with the matter but is often deadlocked in getting the answer.
For there is not a single scripture in the Qur'an as to what kind of food should be reserved for the experts of heaven or hell.
In the Quran, says Sheikh Mabruk Attia, it is only mentioned that the inhabitants of heaven will fill their stomachs with tasty food.
However, the text of the Quran does not mention that the inhabitants of hell will eat until their stomachs are full. This is as Allah says in Quran Surat As-Shafat verse 66:
فَإِنَّهُمْ لَءَاكِلُونَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ
They really ate some of the fruit of the tree, and they filled their stomachs with the fruit of the zaqqum.
Shaykh Attiah mentioned that neither the inhabitants of heaven nor their hell equally enter the bathroom. He said there is no bathroom in the afterlife. Then he thought, what does the bathroom have to do with eating?
He explained that it is possible for a person to eat a meal that is proportionate or in the language of the Quran is called a good meal. This is as Allah says in Quran Surat Al-Haqqah 24 as follows:
كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا هَنِيئًا بِمَا أَسْلَفْتُمْ فِي الْأَيَّامِ الْخَالِيَةِ
Eat and drink well because of the charity you have done in the days gone by.
Sheikh Attia added that those who eat proportionately do not need to go to the toilet, but they can still fill their stomachs with food.
He also added that living in hell was an abomination and there was no bathroom in it. Therefore, for a man of hell who consumes his food from the Zaqqqum tree, he will be troubled and in pain because there is no bathroom in hell.
Meanwhile, the inhabitants of heaven will constantly fill their stomachs with many desires and good food without feeling the need to throw out the little water or the big water in heaven.
