Divine Guidance Specialized for Thief

Man still needs guidance even though He is God-fearing.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala wills for everything, including giving guidance to the heart of a thief.

Through Telegram message Ustadz Najmi Umar Bakkar explained, A thief broke into the house of Malik bin Dinar rahimahullah, so he was looking for something (in the house) to steal.

But he didn't find anything to take. Then he saw Malik ibn Dinar praying. When Malik had finished his prayer, he looked at the thief and said:

“You have come to seek the treasure of the world, but you have not obtained it, so do you have any treasure in the Hereafter!!?”

Then the thief answered him and sat down, and he was amazed at this man. Then Malik began to give her advice until the thief cried, and then the two of them went together to the mosque for prayer.

And the people were astonished and astonished at the two, and they said, “A great alim with a thieving kingpin, does this make sense!!?”

Then the men asked Malik the son of Dinar, and he said to them, “He came to steal our treasure, and we stole his heart” (Taariikh al-Islam II/144 by Imam Adz-Dzahabi)

Imam Ibn Taimiyyah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said:

الذنوب من لوازم نفس الإنسان وهو محتاج إلى الهدى في كل لحظة، وهو إلى الهدى أحوج منه إلى الأكل والشرب

“Sins are among the things that inevitably arise from the soul of man, and he needs guidance at all times, and his need for guidance is greater than his need for food and drink” (Majumu'ul Fataawa VIII/216)

Imam Abdul Aziz bin Baz said:

ﺃﻧﺖ ﻓﻲ ﺣﺎﺟﺔ ﺇﻟﻰ ‎اﻟﻬﺪاﻳﺔ ﻭﻟﻮ ﻛﻨﺖ ﺃﺗﻘﻰ اﻟﻨﺎﺱ ﻭﻟﻮ ﻛﻨﺖ ﺃﻋﻠﻢ اﻟﻨﺎﺱ، ﺃﻧﺖ ﻓﻲ ﺣﺎﺟﺔ ﺇﻟﻰ اﻟﻬﺪاﻳﺔ ﺣﺘﻰ ﺗﻤﻮﺕ

“You need guidance even though you have become the most pious man, and even if you are the most knowledgeable, you will always need guidance until you die” (Majumu'ul Fataawa VII/158)
