Indonesia Ulama Assembly Distributes Income to Palestine IDR 23 Billion Through BAZNAS

Humanitarian funds come from the community distributed by Indonesia Ulama Assembly

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Ulama Assembly (MUI)) to channel humanitarian income to help the Palestinian people through the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) RI, worth IDR 23 billion.

The distribution of the money is handed over directly by the General Chairman of MUI, Anwar Iskandar to the Chairman of BAZNAS RI, Noor Achmad and witnessed Vice President Ma'ruf Amin at Hotel Aryaduta, Jakarta, Friday (17/11/2023).

“We express our gratitude to MUI for entrusting its funds to be channeled through BAZNAS. God willing BAZNAS in channeling aid funds from this people on principle 3A, namely safe shar'i, safe regulation, and safe NKRI,” Noor said.

Kiai Noor revealed that BAZNAS has sent aid in two stages. First, Indonesian President Joko Widodo was removed, and now aid has reached Palestinian Gaza. Secondly, through the Navy's military warships that will sail in the near future.

“We also hope that the distribution of the next phase of aid can be done soon with existing funds,” he said.

Noor added that there are at least three paths taken by BAZNAS in channeling aid to the Palestinians, namely Egypt, Jordan, and the ICRC or International Committee of the Red Cross.

“Now the most likely and fastest way to arrive is to use the Egyptian route. Because the path that was opened was only the Rafah Gate in Egypt. Egypt has good relations with the Palestinians and also with Israel,” he said.

On the same occasion, MUI General Chairman Anwar Iskandar said that the fund of Rp 23 billion was an income raising carried out by a number of institutions through MUI.

“Humanitarian funds from people referred to MUI come from people who send directly to MUI accounts as well as from a number of Amil Zakat Institutions that have been partners of MUI,” Anwar said.

Anwar affirmed that MUI entrusts fully to BAZNAS for being an institution that already has a high reputation for extracting, distributing, and utilizing humanitarian aid, including its accountability.

“MUI fully submits to BAZNAS to draw up a program for the use of these humanitarian funds. Periodically, BAZNAS has also provided itself to present reports and developments of humanitarian programs in Palestine to MUI, LAZ-LAZ partners, and the public in a transparent manner,” he said.

Earlier on Monday (6/11/2023) MUI also organized a humanitarian donation ceremony for Palestine through BAZNAS RI at MUI Pusat Building, Jakarta.

The fund is a combination of a number of institutions, including LAZISMU, LAZ Al-Azhar, Indonesian Mosque Council, Dhuafa Wallet, Rumah Zakat, Yayasan Ma'had Raifah Islam Akhyar, Kitabisa.com, Wahdah Inspirasi Zakat Organization, LPPOM MUI, IDF MUI, MUI Provinces and Districts/Cities in Indonesia, Muslim Communities in Malaysia, Indonesian Students in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, as well as institutions Other philanthropy.
