REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) condemned the vile slander of Israel about Indonesia Hospital in the Jabalia region in northern Gaza, Palestine. The Israeli government and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have previously accused the health facility of storing diesel fuel and having underground tunnel to perform prohibited deeds.

The Head of Foreign Relations at MUI Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim said the Indonesian-funded hospital in Gaza has now turned dark after Israeli shelling. “Bombing hospitals is an extraordinary crime. Israel must also compensate for all the losses caused by acts of terror and mass destruction and mass killing,” Sudarnoto told Republika on Monday (13/1/2023).

Sudarnoto said that in connection with the initiative of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and the Arab League to organize an Extraordinary Joint Summit on November 11, 2023 in Riyadh, MUI conveyed the following note.

First, MUI appreciates the initiative of the OIC and the Arab League, which have organized a special Extraordinary Joint Summit to the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. “Secondly, MUI is grateful for the achievement of 31 decisions of the summit, which reflect the joint agreement of the leaders of the member states of the OIC and the Arab League," he added.

Thirdly, MUI strongly encourages all parties, including the OIC, the Arab League and the United Nations, to bring about an immediate ceasefire so that humanitarian aid and supplies of basic necessities desperately needed by the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip can be immediately channelled.

In this regard, MUI has collected humanitarian donations including donation galleys for the Gaza's Indonesia hospital. On last Monday (6/11/2023), the National Alms Agency (Baznas) has received a donation of IDR 25 billion from MUI for the Palestinian people.

“Fourth, MUI urges the United States, NATO and other countries to cease military support to Israel in committing genocide, war crimes and destruction against Gaza,” Sudarnoto said.

Sudarnoto added that, MUI strongly supports the agreement on the need for immediate legal processing of all criminal crimes committed by Israeli occupiers, both in the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ). "MUI as a partner of the Indonesian government is ready to support the political process in question, including the Two-State Solution," he said.
