Anies Speaks to Jokowi, Asks for Neutrality

Anies welcomes President Jokowi's response calling for a neutral apparatus.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA --Presidential candidate Anies Baswedan delivered various things discussed at a luncheon with President Joko Widodo and two other candidates Prabowo Subianto and Ganjar Pranowo at Istana Merdeka, Jakarta, Monday (30/10/2023). Anies said that the talk in the banquet for about 1.5 hours was more relaxed.

On that occasion, Anies also delivered a public message about neutrality to Jokowi. “We told him that we often meet with many people who are dear to Mr President. And those who hold this dear to the message for Mr President can maintain neutrality,” Anies told reporters.

Anies continued, people also advised President Jokowi to interfere with all security forces to maintain neutrality in the 2024 elections.

Therefore, the presidential candidate from the Coalition of Changes welcomed President Jokowi's response, which gathered officials, regional heads, military and police officers to ensure neutrality in the elections.

“We see it is an important message that can make our presidential election tomorrow safely peaceful because the whole organizing element shows a neutral and professional attitude. So it was one that we conveyed to him and he responded positively well,” Anies said.

The luncheon with the three presidents was initiated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Anies said this invitation had been aired last week and was originally planned for Sunday (29/10/2023) yesterday.

“I accepted the invitation last week to be invited on Sunday, but we said on Sunday yesterday there was a commitment with the community in Jember so we couldn't then thank you for making it on Monday so that we could attend together,” he said. The meeting itself took place warmly between the three presidential candidates which began at 12.00 pm and finished around 13:30pm.

Jokowi, dressed in a blue batik shirt, hosted three candidates with a variety of Archipelago food menus at a round table in one of the rooms of the Merdeka Palace. 

PDIP presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo confirms that one of the discussions is regarding neutrality in the 2024 Presidential Election.

Ganjar said that neutrality is important to ensure that the 2024 presidential election runs smoothly. “Yes, it is important that democracy without neutrality becomes very partial and difficult,” Ganjar told reporters at the Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta, Monday (30/10/2023).

Ganjar hopes, all parties to ensure the elections run smoothly and peacefully. Therefore, he asked that all apparatus be neutral and fair. “Our job, let's keep this election peaceful together, the apparatus is very very impartial (impartial), everything can go fairly and we can take care of each other,” he said.
