Monkeypox Cases in Jakarta Rising

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA-- Monkeypox cases in DKI Jakarta are increasing to 10 cases. This was stated by the Head of the Surveillance, Epidemiology and Immunization Section of the Health Department of DKI Jakarta Ngabila Salama.

“DKI Jakarta monkeypox update as of October 24, 2023 at 10.00 pm, there are a total of 10 positive cases,” Ngabila said when contacted by Republika.co.id on Tuesday (24/10/2023).

He explained that one case in August 2022 was declared cured, one case on October 13, 2023 was isolated in a hospital (hospital), then one case on October 19, 2023 was also isolated in a hospital. In addition, five cases on October 21, 2023 were isolated in the hospital and on October 23, 2023 there were two cases of hospital isolation.

She added that 11 people suspected monkeypox. In addition, there are two people who are likely or have symptoms of monkeypox but no PCR tests have been performed. Six people who were previously suspected were found to be negative for monkeypox.

“The total recipients of monkeypox vaccination are 11 people,” she said.

The Department of Health (Dinkes) of DKI Jakarta invites the entire community to constantly maintain personal hygiene by applying Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS). This is aimed at preventing the transmission of Monkeypox (Monkey Pox) disease in the DKI Jakarta area.

“One way people can prevent the transmission of the disease is to diligently wear masks and wash their hands with soap in running water, especially if they are sick and meet sick people. In addition, we also need to maintain good reproductive health and be faithful to each other,” said Acting Head of the Jakarta Provincial Health Department Ani Ruspitawati in a written statement on Tuesday (24/10/2023).

Furthermore, Ani revealed globally the cumulative number of first confirmed cases of monkeypox was 91,123 cases in 115 countries with 157 deaths. The countries that reported the most cases in September 2023 were China (365 cases), Thailand (144 cases), Portugal (86 cases) and the United States (72 cases)
