REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The trend of adding daily Covid-19 cases tends to increase throughout this week. Indonesian Covid-19 Handling Task Force records that the average number of additional daily cases in the last 7 days was 5,336 cases.
This figure is higher than the average case during the previous week, namely 4,677 cases per day.
The Indonesian's government must give a serious concern to this condition, especially to anticipate an increase in the movement of citizens ahead of the period of the homecoming prohibition.
As is known, the community still has the opportunity to return to their hometowns before the period of the homecoming prohibition (Idul Fitri/Lebaran holiday), which is May 6-17, 2021.
On Sunday (18/4), the Task Force reported 4,585 new Covid-19 cases. With the testing capacity dropping drastically, the daily positivity rate also increased, namely 14.65 percent. This figure is higher than the daily positivity rate this week, which ranges from 10-12 percent.
The pattern of decreasing covid-19 testing capacity on weekends and national holidays has occurred since the beginning of the pandemic. This problem has not been resolved until now.
With the addition of cases today, DKI Jakarta became the province with the highest number, namely 950 new cases. West Java is in the second position with 769 cases. Following this, Central Java with 396 cases, Riau with 330 cases, and East Java with 241 cases.
Indonesia also recorded an increase in the number of recovered covid-19. The Task Force reported that there were 4,873 patients who had recovered from Covid-19 in the past day. The total number of patients recovering from Covid-19 reached 1,455,065 people.
However, the death rate from Covid-19 continues to increase. This Sunday, 96 people were reported to have died from Covid-18. The total number of patients who died with a positive status of Covid-19 to date has reached 43,424 people.
The government reports that more than 5.9 million Indonesians have followed the complete vaccination or two injections for the Sinovac vaccine.
