Witness Thought Church Suicide Bomber is a Woman

A suicide bomb rocked the Cathedral Church in Makassar on Sunday.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAKASSAR - An eye witness named Saele who was about 50 meters from the point of explosion at the Makassar Cathedral Church Gate suspected that the suicide bomber was a woman. Saele's confession is also based on his vision of the body parts in the form of arms and fingers that were found not far from where he was.

"I am not sure the gender of the culprit. However, from the cut of his hand, wrist, and fingers it is white and small, it looks like a girl. I also compare it to male hands, like mine, it is very different," said Saele in Makassar, Sunday (28/3).

Saele, who works as a religious instructor at the Makassar Ministry of Religion in Mamajang District with his wife, on Sunday morning drove from Jalan Ahmad Yani after doing sea water therapy on the beach in front of the Makassar Roterdam Fort. Due to unhealthy conditions, the motorbike was driven directly by his wife.

"We panicked, then stopped after the incident. I saw someone who was running, who seemed to be a police officer, immediately called and called this a suicide bombing. Residents came to the origin of the sound of the explosion," he said.

"If our motorbikes were to go faster, we might also have been hit by a bomb explosion. We panicked because we saw body parts scattered everywhere," he said who was directly at the scene.

At that time, Saele and his wife saw that there were still a few congregation members leaving the church, or more that were still in the room. Around the location of the explosion, motorbikes were also seen on fire and a number of residents were injured.

"So, there are some members of the congregation who have finished their services and some are still inside. I saw that the villagers were covered with blood on their pants," said Saele.

A suicide bomb rocked the Cathedral Church in Makassar on Sunday. One person died as a result of this explosion in which the victim is suspected of being the suicide bomber.

South Sulawesi Police Chief (Sulsel) Inspector General of the Merdisyam Police confirmed that the number of victims who died was one person. "There is one person who died and that is a suicide bomber and is still in the process of identifying members," said Inspector General of Police Merdisyam.

The suicide bomber's body was crushed and several parts of his body were damaged by the explosion. The perpetrator of the suicide bombing did not get into the church after the security officers held him at the gate. At the same time the worship process in the church was finished.
