REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- West Java is the first Indonesian province to launch a gas-to-electric stove conversion program after Governor Ridwan Kamil issued a circular to that effect on March 5, 2019. The program is aimed at reducing local residents' dependence on liquefied petroleum gas, Secretary of the West Java Provincial Government Iwa Karniwa said while launching the program here on Tuesday.

Electric stove will enable the households to save by up to 20 percent lower than gas stove, he said adding electric stove is also environmentally friendly. "By converting gas stove to the electric one, the public can save by up to 20 percent. In addition, electric stove can also reduce carbon sent to the sky so the electric stove is environmentally friendly," he said.

To make the program a success, the West Java provincial administration is focusing on fulfilling electricity connections to all parts of the province until the electrification ratio reaches 100 percent. The electricity connections will not use regional budget fund but corporate social responsibility (CSR) fund from companies in the province, he said.

Several companies are ready to finance the electrical connections and the provincial government will only complete data on households which have not had electricity. West Java is currently the largest province receiving subsidized LPG in 3-kg cylinders in Indonesia. This year, the government allocates 1.3 million tons of LPG to West Java, accounting for 20 percent of the national quota.
