REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's inflation rose 0.32 percent in January 2019. An increase in the prices of fresh fish, rice, and vegetables paid contribution to the inflation, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
"January's inflation was influenced by the prices of fresh fish, rice, and vegetables," BPS Chief Suhariyanto remarked at a press briefing here on Friday.
The price hike contributed to the inflation of foodstuffs, recorded at 0.92 percent, he noted.
"Fresh fish recorded an inflation of 0.06 percent, and rice witnessed an inflation of 0.04 percent. Actually, the rice price hike was normal in several cities, as the price was relatively stable," he revealed.

Medical care and education, recreation and sports contributed 0.27 percent and 0.24 percent respectively to the January 2019 inflation. However, transportation, communication, and financial services recorded a deflation of 0.16 percent.
"Deflation in the transportation sector was contributed by a 0.04 percent decline in the prices of Pertalite, Pertamax, and Pertamax Turbo gasoline and a 0.02 percent drop in the prices of railway tickets," he noted.
However, air tickets contributed 0.02 percent to the January 2019 inflation.
