Lion Air directors, personnel licenses temporarily suspended

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Ministry of Transportation has asked Lion Air to suspend its board of director members and personnel temporarily from their duties. The step was taken for the sake of investigation of Lion Air flight JT 610 accident performed by the National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT).

According to acting director general of Air Transportation, M Pramintohadi Sukarno, the appeal was based Law No. 1/2009 on Aviation and Civil Aviation Safety Regulation Part 121. The regulation stipulates Certification and Operating Requirements: Domestic, Flag, and Supplemental Air Carriers. It was also done to respond demand to the government to publicly announce Lion Air flight JT 610 plane accident case.

“We ask Lion Air to temporarily suspend members of directors and personnels from their duties and ask them to be cooperative with the investigation,” said Praminto on Thursday (Nov 1).

The sanction was imposed to director of Maintenance and Engineering, Quality Control Manager, Fleet Maintenance Management Manager and Release Engineer PK-LQP.

In order to maintain the fulfillment of the airworthiness aspect of the operation of Lion Air aircraft, Pramintohadi also requested PT. Lion Mentari president director to immediately appointed acting personel for Maintenance Director and Engineering and Quality Control Manager. The Directorate General of Air Transportation also temporarily suspended licenses of aircraft personnel involved in flying JT 610 aircraft for a period of 120 calendar days.

Aircraft type B737-8 Max with Flight Number JT 610 owned by Lion Air was flying from Soekarno Hatta Airport in Banten to Depati Amir Airport in Pangkal Pinang and was reported to have lost contact on Oct 29 at around 06:33 WIB (Indonesia West Standard Time).

The aircraft, which bore the registration number PK-LQP, was reportedly last sighted on radar at coordinates 05 46.15 S - 107 07.16 E. The aircraft departed at 06:10. WIB and was scheduled to arrive in Pangkal Pinang at 07.10 WIB. The plane had requested a return to base before finally disappearing from the radar.

National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has ensured that JT 610 Lion Air crashed in the waters of Karawang Regency.
