REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SLEMAN -- Government of Sleman sub-district, Special Region of Yogyakarta is committed to promote the culture and tourism potentials its region through a 2018 Tour de Prambanan event held on Sunday. The 100-km cycling activity placed its start and finish points in the Prambanan Temple area, Sleman sub-district.
Sub-district Head of Sleman Sri Purnomo stated that the event was held based on Sleman's local governments' optimism in the potentials of the area's tourism sector.
"Cultural wealth and natural beauty in Sleman Sub-district will be a special attraction for cyclists who take part in the event," he said.
He hoped that such activities can be carried out continuously, so that the spirit of tourism in Sleman Sub-district continues to increase.
"This is also our response towards the people's keenness on sports tourism," he said.
Head of the Sleman Sub-district Tourism Office Sudarningsih said that Tour de Prambanan is part of the promotion of Sleman as a Sport Tourism destination that targets participants from both local and international sectors.
"This activity succeeded in attracting quite high public interest. Until the registration time was closed, the number of participants was 850 people, exceeding the original target of only 500 participants," he said.
Participants were dominated by members of Indonesia Bike Road Club, while the rest signed up individually. "This year's Tour de Prambanan carries the theme 'Sports and Tourism for a New Civilization'. This is the second event held after the success one we had in 2017," he said.
The participants will be competing in a 100 Km route around Sleman Sub-district and there are also special titles up for grabs this time around, namely the King and Queen of Mountain.
Other competition categories in 2018 Tour de Prambanan event include Class under 35, Class under 35-45, Class 46-55, Class 56 up, Class Female Hobbyist, Male Athlete Class and the Female Athlete Class. The total prize contested is 100 million rupiah.
