REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEULABOH -- An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale shook West Aceh district on Thursday. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) confirmed the quake hit at 11.29 am local time.
The epicenter of the quake was located in the sea some 30 kilometers northeast of West Aceh. It happened at a depth of 10 kilometers, the agency said.
"I didn't feel the quake. But then I was informed of the quake," said Edi Syah Putra, a resident of Meulaboh, capital of West Aceh district.
The quake was not significant enough to cause a tsunami.
On Monday night (Oct 15), a magnitude 5.4 earthquake also rocked the district, prompting local residents to rush outdoors.
