REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA -- Vice Presidential candidate number 01 KH Ma'ruf Amin emphasized that the entire national campaign team of Joko Widodo (Jokowi)-himself had never adopted the use of negative campaigns. His statement was in response to the news of the Prosperous Justice Party, which stated that it allowed the use of negative campaigns.

"We have never embraced a negative campaign. It is not permissible," Ma'ruf said, after attending a consolidation event with volunteers in Yogyakarta, on Monday afternoon.

According to Ma'ruf, his party had to carry out a positive campaign and not carry out negative campaigns, especially the black campaign in the form of hoaxes.

"There should be no hoax, slander, or hate speech," he explained.

Earlier, President of PKS Sohibul Iman allowed his cadres to perform negative campaign. However, he asserted most of the campaign should be positive.

"You may perform negative campaign for 20 percent only and the rest should be positive campaign,"  he said in consolidation meeting of PKS lawmaker candidates in Depok, West Java, on Sunday (Oct 14).

Negative campaign could be done by highlighting weaknesses of the opponent. It should be based on fact.

Sohibul said it was needed as information to the people. On the other hand, PKS did not allow its cadres to carry out black campaign. He considered black campaign as a form of slander.

"We have zero tolerance against black campaign," Sohibul asserted.
