REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALU — Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) said emergency medical facilities in Palu, Central Sulawesi have operated to handle earthquake and tsunami victims. The Mobile Clinic and Regional General Hospitals (RSUD) were supported by the availability of logistics medicines.

“In addition, IDI along with National Alms Agency (Baznas) will operate medical post at the airport to screen patients condition who leave or return to Palu,” said Central Board of IDI secretary general Adib Khumaidi on Thursday (Oct 4).

IDI along with Indonesian Military (TNI) had deployed medical teams by bringing medical assistance through many ways, such as air, land, and sea. They worked with local government and non-governmental organizations in Central Sulawesi to ensure the service at the disaster locations.

An earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter Scale, which was updated by Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to 7.4 on the Richter Scale, shook the Palu and Donggala regions last Friday (Sept 28) evening. The epicenter of the earthquake at a depth of 10 kilometers was located 27 kilometers east of the Donggala Sea.

BMKG has issued a tsunami alert, warning of potential for waves of 0.5 meters to three meters on western Donggala coast, and alert status, with warning of potential tsunami waves of less than 0.5 meters on northern Donggala beach, northern Mamuju, and the western city of Palu.

The death toll from Donggala-Palu earthquake and tsunami was reported risen to 1.407. According to National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Head for Data, Information, and Public Relations Center Sutopo Purwo Nugroho some 519 dead people have been buried after being identified.
