REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SUKABUMI -- A hole measuring a diameter of six meters and a depth of some six meters developed mysteriously in a paddy field in Legoknyenang of Sukabumi District, West Java. "The big hole was found by villagers on Thursday (Sept 6).

"At first, the hole was not that big, but it then continued to widen," Cece Sudirman, owner of the paddy field, noted here on Friday.

According to Sudirman, the hole is six meters deep. At the bottom of the big hole are two smaller holes, with a diameter of two meters.

None of the villagers dared going into the hole for fear of poisonous gases or of the land sinking further. Sudirman said he will fence off the area to prevent villagers from coming closer, as some tremors could still be felt near the location.

"Certainly, it was not a landslide, as (the hole) was created in the middle of the field," he stated.

Yogi Prayoga, a villager, stated that before the hole was found, he heard a noise and felt tremors. He thought it was an earthquake.

"At first, the diameter was only four meters, but it then widened to six meters and maybe more," Prayoga added.
