REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Ministry of Transportation said light rail transit (LRT) in Jakarta will be accessible for people with disabilities. All the facilities was built in accordance with the needs of community, including disabled people.
“We want the construction of this modern transportation facility to be enjoyed by all people without exception, including passengers with special needs,” said director general of railways at Ministry of Transportation, Zulfikri on Wednesday (August 29).
Zulfikri explained LRT Jakarta was equipped with escalators, elevators passengers with special needs, ramp, CCTV, medical room, guiding blocks for guiding the blind passenger, a toilet for the disabled, and the priority seat on the platform or on the train. In addition, he said there will be service officers at the station who will help people with disabilities to board and get out from the train.
Zulfikri asserted the provision of services for disabled people in accordance with Law No. 8 Year 2016 on people with disabilities. Therefore, Ministry of Transportation will continue to reform and add facilities for persons with disabilities, before this modern transportation inaugurated in 2019.

According to National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) data, the number of people with disabilities in Indonesia is estimated to be around 15 percent of the total population, which is around 36 million people. In Jakarta, based on data from the Jakarta Central Statistics Agency (BPS), in 2015 there were 6,003 people with disabilities.
"This is also our concern. Therefore, the fulfillment of facilities for people with disabilities will be carried out in all LRT stations," said Zulfikri.
