REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia police chief General Tito Karnavian said terrorism would be the threat to be anticipated against most by the police. Meanwhile, street crimes and traffic jams were the second and third biggest threat respectively.

Following bomb attacks in Surabaya, East Java, recently, he said the police would continue making manouvers and moving involving various elements to prevent its recurrence. Tito said the police would strengthen security at venues and reinforce commands in regions used for the Asian Games events such as South Sumatra, Jakarta, West Java and Banten.

"The four regional commands have operations concept of involving other agencies such as the military and local administrations. There will also be CCTV and command posts to be made available," he said at a meeting with House Commission III on Thursday.

With regard to street crimes he said they had to be dealt with to assure sense of security while the guests from 45 countries stay in the country.

So far the police have netted 1,500 street criminals in West Java and 50 in Jakarta. He said strict actions would be taken against those who fought back using knives or guns while being arrested.

Regarding traffic he said management in Palembang was relatively easier as arenas are concentrated in Jakabaring. There will also be a Light Rail Transit system to support transportation.

Situation in Jakarta is predicted to be more complex and so the police would coordinate with the local administration with regard to imposing a school holiday during the event. "It is now still being discussed," he said.
