REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita denied any increase in the price of chicken egg. He said the commodity food price has decreased.

“Egg price not hike and currently down,” said Enggartiasto.

Enggartiasto statement was reported different from Jakarta Food Info page. According to the page, the average price of chicken egg in Jakarta reached 27,060 IDR per kilogram on Monday (9/7).

Previously, the egg price only reached 26,000 IDR per kilogram. However, Trade Minister said the egg price hikes due to normal price fluctuation.

“Yes fluctuation of 1,000 IDR to 2,000 IDR per kilogram, there is no problem,” Enggartiasto added.

Nevertheless, Enggartiasto admitted the increase in the price of chicken meat. Currently, the average price of chicken meat in Jakarta is 36,763 IDR. The increase occurred, even before Ministry of Trade has asked for additional supply.

Meanwhile, based on data from Ministry of Agriculture, there is a surplus of chicken meat 517,819 tons this year. The number is based on the prognosis of chicken meat production this year amounted to 3,565,495 tons, while consumption requirement of 3,047,676 tons.
