REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – A member of Commission IV of the House of Representatives Akmal Pasluddin said the government should not only targeted on providing food supplies for annual strategic moment before Ramadhan.

“It is necessary to keep the stability of food price. Nowadays, prices, especially food price, always increase,” said him to Republika.co.id on Tuesday (April 18).

Akmal said Commission IV would continuously remind the government and related ministries to maintain food price stability. Provincial and regional leaders would also be summoned to issue short term policies to resolve problems on food supplies and food prices before Ramadhan and Eid.

According to Akmal, government always set the food price with 10 percent of tolerance. The policies usually came from Trade Ministry on the coordination with food division under Coordinating Ministry of Economy.

Akmal said many big cities, such as Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Makassar and others were ready to keep the food supplies stability. The same statements said by the central government, Agricultural Ministry, and Trade Ministry. “But, there is no statement from the central or regional government saying their readiness to guarantee that the food price during Ramadhan and Eid would be the same to the other months,” he said.

He reminded the government that Indonesian economic condition was depended on food stability. Inflation would vulnerably affect food commodity. Therefore, Akmal hoped the government would improve the food management during Ramadhan and Eid.

"Not only on the food supplies, but on how the government handles the food price increasing on maximum five percent,” he said.
