REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Government through Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing assessed readiness of the Eid al-Fitr's mass-exodus routes in 2018 are better than previous year. The assessment was based on existence of three alternatives of national road routes for this year's homecoming season.

In addition, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said mudik routes in 2018 are supported with Jakarta-Surabaya toll road connections, both operational and functional. He also asserted that 90 percent of national road are in stable condition.

"We have reported to House of Representatives (DPR), mudik routes this year will be better than last year because 90 percent of national road condition is stable," said Basuki on Tuesday (June 5).

Basuki explained people in Java have three alternatives of national road routes, other than toll roads. People could choose to take the North or Pantura coast along the 1,341 km, the Central Cross 1,197 km or the South Cross 1,405 km.

Especially for the South Coast, Basuki also promoted people to pass the route that has tourist attractions. Furthermore, he said Cincin Lama bridge or known as Widang Bridge in East Java has been repaired and can be crossed by vehicles. The bridge that crosses the Bengawan Solo River collapsed on last April 17 due to overload.

Not only in Java, Basuki said all echelon officials at Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing to check the readiness of national roads that will be used as mudik routes in Sumatra, Bali, Borneo, and Sulawesi. He said Sumatera eastern way currently is in good condition.
