REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- People's Consultative Assembly speaker Zulkifli Hasan said Muslims as majority in Indonesia have high potency to be national leaders. He also assessed Muslims are able to build strong nation and state.

To be big and strong, Muslims in Indonesia not only need to learn religion, but also politics, economics, and technology, said Zulkifli during Taraweeh sermon on Sunday (May 27).

According to Zulkifli, in modern era, Muslims are required to be able to develop their potential. It is in order to win the competition both at national and international levels.

He argued with such a complete knowledge, Muslims can be national leaders. Even, Muslims can be world leaders whose target can improve the degree and welfare of the people.

Zulkifli pointed out Muslims during Prophet Muhammad PBUH era. At that time, Islam reached out to many regions and people.

Muslims were developed by Prophet Muhammad PBUH from a small mosque at that time, at Nabawi Mosque in Medina, Zulkifli said.

Zulkifli stressed, with the persistence of Prophet Muhammad PBUH to build Islam, the religion grew like a snowball to spread all over the world. In the era, many prophets friends had expertise as a merchant or economist, a country leader or a political expert, as well as a scientist.

Nowadays, Muslims can capitalize their complete knowledge to become a leader, Zulkifli added.

Earlier, Professor of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah, Komaruddin Hidayat stated that it took strong individuals who are rooted in public life to build national Islamic axis. He asserted that in the context of the state, a country could not be supported merely by a strong religious pillar.

Science and social pillars also paid contribution to the nation. Meanwhile, a weak economic condition will affect the quality of education and democracy.

"Muslim have a large political stake in the establishment of the republic of Indonesia and it's logic if Muslims aks for a large share," he said on Saturday.

Komaruddin reminded the people to reconsider their action in confronting Islam and nationality. They should pay attention to the timing and context.

"All parties are aware that without the support from Islamic communities, they will not win," he said.
