REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Agency for Counter Terrorism (BNPT) will go all out to maintain security for the 2018 Asian Games. BNPT also will be on the lookout for possible terrorist disturbances.

In a press statement here on Thursday, the BNPT Chief Commissioner, General Suhardi Alius, said BNPT wanted to make the Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang zero attack and zero accident as had been done by South Korea during the Asian Games 2014 in Incheon.

For that, he said the security woul be made very tight so there was no gap for those who wanted to disrupt the biggest sports event in Asia. "Very strict, anyone who does not use ID Card should not go in. The motto is 'zero attack and zero accident'," said Suhardi.

An international event such as the Asian Games had the potential to become a terrorist target so anticipation, awareness and synergy of various parties needed to be ensured. He pointed out that the 2018 World Cup in Russia has also been threatened by militant groups, especially the ISIS. "So security should be really strengthened, without a gap," he said.

The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Puan Maharani, held a meeting with the BNPT and related ministries and agencies. "All was discussed in detail such as security issues, placement of athletes, VIPs, venues, that we identify, keep what we have to do, in essence, all have collaborated well," said Suhardi.
