REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MATARAM -- The Mataram Hotel Association in West Nusa Tenggara has started to increase the security of hotels. The measure was taken after bomb attacks in a number of areas in Surabaya, East Java.
"We, of the Mataram Hotel Association (AHM), have coordinated to improve the security of each hotel," AHM Chairman, Ernanda Agung Dewobroto, stated in Mataram on Monday.
He noted that the Surabaya bombing incident has not affected the hotel occupancy rate in Mataram, as the fasting month was fast approaching and most people who visit the area are local tourists.
"Until now, (the bomb attack) has not affected the hotel occupancy rate as the visitors are mostly local tourists and as there is usually a decrease in hotel occupancy rates before the month of fasting month," Dewobroto explained.
Regarding coordination with the police for the security maintenance of hotels, Dewobroto revealed that there has not yet been any coordination, because the police are still busy handling the terror attacks.
"We certainly condemn the terror actions. Moreover, the police are still busy. We will still help the police if there is anything that needs to be coordinated," he explained.
On Sunday morning, bombers launched suicide attacks on three churches, killing 18 people, including the attackers, while on Monday, two motorcycles with five suicide attackers exploded bombs at Surabaya Police Headquarters, killing four of the attackers.
