KPK arrests a lawmaker charged with accepting bribe

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested a lawmaker caught red handed in the act of allegedly accepting bribe. The lawmaker was arrested on Friday night together with eight other suspects including businessmen on charge of bribing the unnamed lawmaker, who is a member of the financial and budgetary commission of the House of Representatives.

"KPK nabbed a member of the country's House of Representatives and a number of other people believed to have bribed a state official," KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said here on Saturday.

Altogether nine people were arrested picked up by KPK on Friday night from a number of separate places in Jakarta, Febri said.

KPK confiscated hundreds of millions of rupiah believed to be the bribe money from the suspects, he said.

KPK has a maximum 24 hours to detain the suspects for investigations.The result of the investigations would be announced after the 24 hour deadline, Febri said.
