KPAI not reveal clarification result on Monas tragedy

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) has summoned For You Indonesia event committee, namely Forum untuk Indonesia. The committee was asked to give clarification related to the death of two children during the event that held in Monald area, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (April 28).

"Today our forum is clarification forum, as stated in the invitation submitted two days ago, said KPAI chairman, Susanto in a press statement on Friday (May 4).

Susanto said the summon against For You Indonesia committee was done as follow up to the public complaints. He mentioned that many people were asking for clarification, both on behalf personal or group. KPAI also has paid a visit to the family of one of the victims to learn the chronology of the incident.

In the meeting with Forum untuk Indonesia, KPAI asked a number of questions about the chronology and also the concept of event. In addition, Susanto said, his party also dig information about license of the events, both applied to the police and and Technical Management Unit (UPT) Monas.

However, when asked further about the chronology based on Forum untuk Indonesia' version, both Susanto and the three commissioners who attended press conference did not answer. KPAI said they will summon other parties first, such as Jakarta Provincial Government.

"First, we need to say that this is the initial step to deepen our understanding on the case, so we are unable to provide more information to public, we certainly must be balanced in deepening this case," Susanto explained.

Meanwhile, on Friday (May 4), Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno said that he has met with Dave R Santoso, Chairman Forum untuk Indonesia, in a meeting facilitated by Perindo Party politician Sahrianta Tarigan.

The deputy governor wanted to investigate incident that claimed two lives of children in the event led by Dave. Sandiaga needed assurance that the provincial government have done a coordination with For You Indonesia committee following tragedy at Monas area.

Two children identified as MJ (12 yo) and R (10 yo) lost their lives allegedly due to jostling when queuing to get free sembako (basic needs) parcel on For You Indonesia event.
