E-ID card graft case is not over yet: KPK

KPK pledges to bring all parties involved in e-ID card graft case to justice.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PADANG -- Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) ensured investigation of e-ID card procurement graft case was not over yet. KPK to continue investigation regardless the verdict of 15 years imprisonment given to former speaker of the House of Representatives, Setya Novanto.

KPK deputy chairman Laode M Syarif said handling the case was like having a long distance run. "So many things we still need to investigate," said on Wednesday (April 25).

Laode asserted KPK will bring all the parties involved in e-ID card graft case to justice. KPK will further learn all the facts revealed on Novanto's trial in order to decide the next steps, Laode added.

On Tuesday (April 24), panel of judges at Jakarta Corruption Court officially sentenced Novanto15 years imprisonment and fine Rp 500 million or three months confinement. He got lighter punishment than KPK prosecutors demand, which charged him with 16 years imprisonment and fine Rp 1 billion or six months confinement.

The court said Novanto was proven to have intervened in the budgeting and procurement of goods and services in e-ID project in 2011 until 2013. He abused his authority to benefit himself and enrich others and corporations.

The former Golkar Party chairman also was proven guilty for collecting 7,3 million US dollars and a Richard Mille watch, worth 135 thousand US dollars. The money and a watch were from Andi Narogong and PT Bimorf Lone Indonesia Director Johannes Marliem, as part of the compensation because Novanto had helped to smoothen the budgeting process.

Earlier, KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah said when confirmed on January 8 that Novanto was the first e-ID card graft case defendant from political cluster. KPK also has named Markus Nari as suspect. The House member from Golkar party faction was still being investigated by KPK.

Meanwhile, the case from the bureaucratic cluster was already solved. Former director general of population and civil registration Ministry of Home Affairs, Irman and former director of information administration management Ministry of Home Affairs, Sugiharto have been convicted.

From private sector cluster, businessman Andi Agustinus aka Andi Narogong has been a defendant and President Director of PT Quadra Solution Anang Sugiana Sudihardjo has been named suspect.
