Jokowi to inaugurate floating net cages in Pangandaran

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PANGANDARAN -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is on a work visit to West Java to inaugurate offshore floating net cages in Pangandaran district on Tuesday.  The offshore floating net cages, to be inaugurated by the president, are part of Marine and Fisheries Ministry's program by adopting offshore technology from Norway.

The floating net cages are expected to able to boost the production of white snapper fish significantly.

Such floating net cages with offshore technology from Norway are are being developed in three strategic areas, namely in Karimunjawa waters in Central Java, Pangadaran waters in West Java, and Sabang waters in Aceh province.

Offshore floating net cages have several advantages, namely resistant to waves, have a resistance of more than 10 years, are easy to install, and have various configurations in operation so they are effective in fish farming.

The inauguration of floating net cages in Pangandaran is a series of President Jokowi's work visit for two days in Central Java and West Java. During the inauguration ceremony at the Cikidang Fish Landing Port, the president will be accompanied by Marine and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, Cabinet Secretarh Pramono Anung, and West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan.
