Three more people die after alcoholic drink party

Police are busy raiding shops selling alcoholic drinks mainly in big cities in Java.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- Three more men in this East Java capital city died on Saturday night after consuming alcoholic drink. The death of the three identified as Pramuji Arianto (49), Wahyudi (52) and Syamsul Hidayat (38), came only days after the country was shocked by the loss of 51 lives in West Java on a similar cause .

Police already arrested a number of people charged with producing and selling illegally processed alcoholic drink following the tragedy in a West Java town.

East Java police quoted witnesses as saying that Pramuji Arianto, Wahyudi and Syamsul Hidayat (38) died after holding alcoholic drink parties for two successive night.

Three three were neighbors at Jalan Pacar Keling Gang IV in Surabaya.

Tambak Sari police chief Commissioner Prayitno said here on Sunday two days earlier, a man Durasim (59) of the neighborhood died after consuming alcoholic drink.

"We are still investigating possible link between the death of Durasim and that of the three died on Saturday," Prayitno said.

A number of witnesses said Durasim and the other three victims of strong drink were known to be heavy drinkers.

The night before the death of Durasim, a number of local people said they saw the four men having a drinking party at Pacar Keling of Surabaya.

Chairman of the Indonesia Association of Scientists and Law Practitioners Indonesia (Alpha) Azmi Syahputra blamed weak control for the rife trade of illegally produced mixed alcoholic drinks.
